Brad served as a public servant with the City of Victoria for over 33 years, including 9 years as Supervisor of Food and Beverages for the City at the Memorial Arena, and 25 years with the Victoria Fire Department. For the last four years of his career, Brad served as the Department's Assistant Fire Chief, Prevention, at Fire Station No. 1. He is the father of three grown children and has been married to his wife Lisa for 25 years.
Before Brad retired in February 2022, he had been thinking about serving Victoria in other ways, including on City Council. Now is the time, he has decided, to step into the arena and stand for election.
Brad has made many connections in the community over his decades of public service in Victoria and has seen and done many things. He's worked closely with BC Housing to set up and make sure shelters are safe for marginalized people in the city. He's worked closely with the Victoria Police to coordinate emergency response efforts to large scale fires, conducted fire investigations and led public safety education in the community, an activity he greatly enjoyed.
The last several years have been hard on Victoria's residents and businesses, particularly in the downtown core. Having been an entrepreneur and small business operator of a hot dog stand at Ship Point in the Inner Harbour, Brad would like to see more support for local small businesses, including more support for police and bylaw enforcement to ensure Victoria's downtown area is a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
Accessibility is a key priority for Brad - road closures on city streets and parks, and a lack of adequate parking space for those who rely on vehicle transportation have made it harder for people, including seniors, persons with disabilities, and tour operators to move in and around town.
Brad looks forward to your support to achieve positive results for the people of Victoria as a city councillor and CRD Director. Vote for Brad to bring real change and accountability back to Victoria.
